I ask you fine, fine folk, fellow sociopaths and abstract creative peers a question that’s been jabbing at my mind for awhile. It’s a simple one, and one that has been asked fervently albeit frequently.
‘Is father time running a fucking race?’ ![]()
Yes. That’s the question. How putrid you think; well you’re wrong. Very wrong. It’s not that I’ve been a lost –mischievous- soul wandering countless dimensions and find that I have returned back to earth; unscathed, unshaven and untainted… but on the contrary, that what’s digging at my nerves is that our lovely plastic world continues to fester and reek in its fertile self importance, bordering on a faceless plight for glorification, always searching & seeking out new ways to design & devour, caught up in a shit-storm of wit versus ignorance; organized concept bodies have black marked it as ‘survival’, religious fanatics call it ‘sin’… and others live & let live or live & let die; whichever flips their dolphins.
This is the parasitical flesh fuck super sphere (I might use that line in a lyric I am thinking) that humanity have dressed up, made over & have dubbed S-O-C-I-E-T-Y.
But these days reek of another stench. The stench of self obsession. Too infatuated are we all with status, position, designation, success, acknowledgement, salvation, wealth and fortune that we have forgotten that the hands of time will not slow their movement to greed or death. Doesn’t everything that is beautiful, sentimental and valuable to us all; live in golden triumph for awhile before fraying away to dust again?
Us human beings have fucked with everything. We’re also diligently screwing up the world as we know it, to such a heightened degree that generations after will need to have a toxic shake for breakfast with serial.
We had a great 31st night; that is 891 in Hikkaduwa. What a time we had being buzzing like chainsaws on the beach… Had a blast and got more smashed than a picket fence hit by a steamroller.
- I must admit, the green, green grass of home is particularly good today –
The start of 2008 began at a furious pace. As I informed many of you, I officially left my previous work place and we’ve been getting our own advertising/marketing project underway.
After a series of pitches and presentations we finally confirmed two big clients; I can’t help but feel that the team can’t wait to begin on these two new campaigns. They are itchy creative virtuosos bastards, you see. Both campaigns would be to create value & awareness for both brands within a selected period of time. Based on marketing evaluations made by us we would design promotional mechanisms that are cost effective, unbelievably creative & complimentary to the brand and its image. ![]()
So it’s been hell bent for work really. Been getting things into order in the new place; lovely joint if I might say so myself. A wiseman (or woman) once told me not to eat where I shit, and I used to always picture it but think it was a damn good example. Despite popular notion, a concept that can stick in your head and illustrate itself has to be significant to a certain degree.
So it’s been working on campaigns, working on the marketing plan for the Band for 2008; and looks like it’s gonna be one hell of a busy year. We’ve requested for the Official SAARC Festival footage from MTV and looks like there’s a chance we might be able to get our sexy paws – sorry claws on them. When we do we will compile it along with the ‘My Malice’ video and a few more tracks from our discography thrown in and the DVD concept just may see the light of day.
There is a stellar plan ‘B’ however. We have the raw, unedited footage off the Delhi performance; and we have discussed in the past few weeks that although the audio isn’t up to mark (cause it’s directly off Andy’s DVD Cam), the sound isn’t too muddy or bad, the instruments and the parts are distinguishable.. but the main thing is it’s totally 100% raw. It’ll make a great Bootleg… There’s one for Rock circles… An Official Bootleg.
So let’s see…
We’ve been trying to secure a good rehearsal hub, ‘cos there were issues aplenty regarding the ‘Studio’ during the end of 2007, some which have been blogged about briefly so I won’t go into that. So we are going back to doing things old school. We’ve gathered up all our gear, we’re gonna pick one of our dude’s homes, so some basic sound proofing and we should be good to go by Tuesday.
Can’t wait to practice man. It’s been over 2 weeks, and I know that sounds like a release time for many… but not for us. It’s been long enough. We have to work on the new tunes and make sure they are hot as shit.
I am flirting with a few album title suggestions at the moment. I will make an official post of the tile once we all agree on one. But it’ll have to reflect on the record. Capture the emotions that bleed into seasons of rhyme and nuance. Different seasons; that’s exactly what we would like to create. It’s NOT a concept record; but would have a thematic thread connecting the tracks… and that’s all I will tell you.
Themes dealing with psychic voyages, out of the body experiences, psychological paralysis & higher altered states of perception are embedded lyrically. So you see what I mean, no?
So we’ve got an album to start recording, work to complete… Stigz have teamed up with Hard/Industrial/Groove Rockers Paranoid Earthling and the crushing new Metal Princes Sword of the Spirit to organize a gig called ‘My Bloody Valentine’. MBV is confirmed for the 17th of February, at a club called Zetter. It’s a valentine’s gig with a twist; so twisted it’s already causing issues with certain sponsors and electronic media. But we’ve found a way round that.
It’s also the first big Rock ‘n Roll gig for the year. So there’s a ton of shit to get done for that. From sorting contracts between the venue, we’ve gotta confirm a few more sponsors just to make sure we break well over even and have no issues, we have to look into the sounds, the backdrop and then the promotions. So we’ve started a teaser campaign and we’ll begin the internet campaign on the 28th Jan. We have to look at the advertising and coordinate a press shoot and magazine interview for the event with a leading publication back here and make sure that TV & Radio starts on time.
The visuals for the event have been officially conceptualized and designed by Mirshad and Tenny. Mirshad or popularly known as Bucky has been working day and night on the TV Trailer; I must say. It’s looking killer.
Then there’s my book. Then there is one more thorn of an exam in my side. I look at how blessed some of us are to do what we do but then I realize that time hasn’t stood still.
Every moment that we get that extra-high, that extra-emotional, that extra-lazy… something that could get done today, gets shoved away for tomorrow. And looking at how fast time is melting away I’d say that tomorrow isn’t a permanent horizon.
It’s been a long time since last I wrote. Well I haven’t been negligent; I’ve had to divert my time to do a lot of things, to pay the bills, to stay fuck-happy and content.
These days are dark, bleeding with infection, war, poverty, tyranny and promiscuity
that is consuming sensibility and rationale. And father time is tired and yearns to sleep again. And again. And again. And again.
We better take a look at ourselves, the people who mean something to us, the things that we value the most and our dreams and wake the fuck up and do something about it.
Time’s slipping by and so will we.
Shall we wake up?
Just wondering...will you guys be flying in for the Maiden Mumbai gig as well?
Cheers.
